Moving Truck Rental (cont.)

5. It won’t hurt to pick up the truck early. Rental trucks are available as soon as the company opens in the morning and are due back by the time they close. If you pick up your truck late, you're just spending the same money and you don’t have the truck for as long. It’s best to have as much time as much free time as possible on moving day as you will always encounter a few hurdles.

Remember to bring the required documents. The rental company will need to see some documents before they release their vehicle to you. This will usually include: a valid driver's license, a credit card (for payment or as a form of security); proof of insurance (to see if you are personally covered in case of untoward incidents).

6. Get the insurance which will be offered to you. If a rental moving Truck Company doesn’t offer you insurance then ask for it. It’s a good idea to ask about the cost of insurance when you are shopping around. As always, prices can vary considerably. While you maybe a confident driver, driving large rental moving trucks can be quite challenging. The sad reality is that most of you will end up with a few new dings, especially when you are reversing for the first time.

7. Even through you might add a few scratches to the truck, or moving van, you should thoroughly check the state of the truck when you pick it up and note all existing damage (and fuel level). Make sure it is completely and accurately documented before you drive the truck away. It’s not unheard of that some companies will try and charge exorbitant amounts for damage that you didn’t do… usually you wont have problems like this with self moving trucks.

8. Remember to refill the gas before you take it back to the rental moving company. Sometimes, moving companies will have a refilling station at there depot. Just remember to check the price of the fuel before filling up!

9. Consider purchasing moving materials and tools. Packing cartons, moving boxes, storage pods, cords, bubble wrap and adhesive are quite often available from the moving truck rental office. You may want to purchase them before you start packing (it depends what you might be moving). You might be able to get away with getting card board boxes from your local supermarket.

10. Load your items into the truck and drive safely. Remember to keep a straight back and bend from your knees when lifting heavy objects. You will usually get a moving trolley with your rental truck which will make it easy to move heavy or awkward to lift items.
