WAR ON GAZA - Situation Is Now Catastrophic

The Israeli government says there is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza, but social and medical workers disagree. John Ging from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency says the situation in Gaza is catastrophic. Israel's military onslaught against Hamas has aggravated Gaza's humanitarian crisis, with electricity and communications cut and the population now facing dire food shortages, aid agencies said on Sunday. The Israeli army said the World Food Program halted emergency shipments to Gaza because its warehouses are full but the UN agency insisted it was desperate to get supplies into the enclave. "The military incursion compounds the humanitarian crisis following more than a week of shelling and an 18-month long blockade of the territory," the UN humanitarian coordinator said in a daily report. There was an "almost total blackout" across most of Gaza and land and mobile phone networks were also down because they depend on backup generators which had no fuel, the report said. All Gaza City hospitals have been without mains electricity for 48 hours and now rely on backup generators which the UN said were "close to collapse". The report said that "for the second consecutive day Israeli authorities have refused to allow an ICRC (International Committee of the Red Cross) emergency medical team into Gaza" to help at the main Shifa hospital. The territory has been sealed off for more than two days. At the hospital the breakdown of temporary generators would threaten 70 patients linked to machines in the intensive care unit, including 30 infants. More than 510 Palestinians have already been killed in Israel's nine day old offensive on Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip, which was intensified on Saturday with the launch of a massive ground operation. The UN said the tank fire and air attacks were preventing medical staff reaching hospitals and ambulances could not get to injured "because of continuous fire". The World Food Program has coordinated emergency food deliveries into Gaza in recent months but the Israeli army said there was plenty of food in Gaza warehouses and that the territory's Hamas rulers had halted distribution. The Israeli government is adamant there is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza. "The WFP stopped sending food in there because their warehouses are full to the top," military spokeswoman Major Avital Leibovitz told AFP. "The question is why Hamas is not moving the food around the territory. They say the roads are blocked. Why are the roads blocked for food but they can get around to fire rockets?" However, Christine Van Nieuwenhuyse, the WFP representative for the Palestinian territories, told AFP that the Gaza food warehouses are at less than half capacity. She said food cannot be distributed because it is "too dangerous" in the conflict or because warehouses are in military zones. Gaza border crossings have been closed for two days and she said the WFP has asked the Israeli government to allow more trucks to go into Gaza. "Tomorrow (Monday) we hope to send some in. But some roads have been destroyed and some of the Palestinian transporters are afraid to go to the border," Van Nieuwenhuyse said.

Chapter 4 Part 1 of Look Me in the Eyes - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Part 1 of 2 I woke up the next morning starring at the ceiling of my hotel room with the hugest headache in the world. It was probably from the game last night, thats what I get for playing linebacker and getting at the passes. I got up to go get my phone to see what time it was, it turned out to be 5:47 am. I wondered why I woke up so early because I didnt get to the hotel till around 11:00 and I stayed up hanging out with Kristen probably till around 2. I wondered were she was but im guessing she left after I dozed off. {Flashback} Travis: Ok I counted 12 times, he counted 10, How many actually was it? I was confused with what they were talking about and thought they were talking about touchdowns. Nick: I thinkkk I had like seven touchdownssss. I could tell I was slurring my words and was a little dizzy. Gabe: (shouted and looked right at Kristen) NO! HOW MANY TIMES DID YOU CHECK KRISTEN OUT? I COUNTED 10 BUT TRAVIS COUNTED 12! I saw Kristen turn right at me and she turned bright red and kind of hid behind Kevin. I was completely embarrassed and turned beyond red. I didnt know what to do but get away from this situation since the AMAs were soon to be over. Nick: uhmmmm I donttt know whattt your talking about but I gottt to gooo. (shouting) COMEE ON KEVVIN ANDDD JOEEE, WEEE GOT TO GOO! They said good bye to everyone and the followed me as I was out the exit door backstage leading into a parking lot filled with lights, paparazzi, fans, and security. All I could hear was people screaming and shouting my name and I felt sooooo horrible. All I wanted was to get out of there and go back to the hotel room for two reasons, A- im drunk and I feel like im going to fall to the floor and ,most importantly B- I was beyond embarrassed when Kristen heard that I checked her out like 12 times. I then tumbled down on the floor and Joe and Kevin helped me up. I could barely walk. Joe: Dude seriously we kind of didnt want to leave and like im sure she saw you check her out. But in a way im kind of glad we left I overheard Travis saying that Erica and Kristen are tight and I definitely dont want to see Erica again. Nick: Joe thats nottt theeee pointt im a little drunk and I feel maddd drizzly. Kevin: Yehh Joe this is the first time Nick got drunk, I remember my first time I felt like I was going to die because I was all so dizzy and I kept falling to the ground. We then arrived to the Black Escalade Truck driven by Big Rob that was going to take us to the hotel we were staying at. Joe got in first, then Kevin. Right as I was about to get in I fell on the ground. I looked up to see Kristen standing next to me with a smirk on her face. When I fell I must of fell hard becaue there were three of her and the kept moving, I must be really dizzy. Kristen: You okay? Nick: YERPP!!! NEVERRR BETTERRRR!! She let out a little giggle and then held out her hand to help me up but instead she fell to the ground right next to me. We both started laughing and I could see Joe and Kevin in the corner of my eye with a devious grin on their faces. Then Joes smile disappear as he looked back towards the door. I looked in that direction and saw Erica standing there walking out. I quickly turned my attention back to Joe as I saw how upset he was and hurt. Joe whispered quietly to us with his voice cracking. Joe: come on Nick lets go. . . Nick: OHKIE DOKEYYY, I was trying to get up but I just kept tumbling to the ground, then Kristen helped me up and I dont know why I did what I did but in a way I was kind of glad. Nick: WAIT! KRISTEN WANNNT TO COME BACK WITH USSSS?!?!? I saw the look on her face which was confused and shock. Maybe it wasnt the best thing to ask her but I am glad I did yet at the same ting I wanted to bash my head against the car door because this girl heard how I checked her out like 12 time and things would just be too awkward. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Posting Part 2 tomorrow because Youtube is being gay! Well I left you with a sort of a cliffy even though I told you at the beginning they hung out afterwards. A single-file line of school children walked past a military checkpoint Sunday as a bomb-loaded truck veered toward them and exploded, ending the lives of 14 young Afghans in a heartbreaking flash captured by a U.S. military security camera. The video shows an SUV slowly weaving through sand bag barriers at a military checkpoint just as a line of school children, most wearing white caps, comes into view. They walk along a pathway between the street and a wall, several of them pausing for a few seconds in a group before moving forward again. The vehicle moves toward the security camera while the children walk in the opposite direction, nearly passing the SUV when the footage ends in a fiery blast. Afghan officials said the kids were attending a final day of class for the year to find out whether they would move up to the next grade. Dr. Abdul Rahman, a doctor at a hospital near the blast, said the children were aged 8 to 10. The U.S. military said the attack in the eastern province of Khost killed 16 people, including 14 children, an Afghan soldier and another person — likely a private security guard that Afghan officials reported killed.
